Title: Take your lead from the Royals

Blog Entry: The Royal family is there to set an example - so say newspaper columnists when the Royals make a gaffe or are caught up in some shenanigans or other. replica watches A By which token we should be commending them and following their lead when they do something really laudable... It was announced this week that the Prince of Wales has heeded a call from the Queen for royal cost-cutting by halving his bill for entertaining. There can't be a taxpayer in the country who doesn't applaud this. After all, we're talking about a considerable amount of money - much of which, it has to be said, comes from the Prince's own pocket. But where His Royal Highness dares to tread, surely we mere mortals can follow? In light of the regal cutbacks this week, I've been pondering the Hesp-family entertainments and have decided to trim our own lavish hospitality. Glass of chilled scrumpy, anyone? The supermarket wine is off until the good times return. Did I say chilled? From the pool down in the stream, that is - the fridge devoted to booze has gone to the recyclers. Don't think I'm being facetious. For a long time I thought the Royals were a waste of money, but as I've grown older and become more experienced in the spin-doctor world of media, so I've come to realise just how important these folk at the very top of the human pile are. One of the important things they do is spread a little happiness among we commoners by inviting a select and deserving of our number to their 'jollies'. The system which sees the hallowed few patting the backs of the masses seems to work. Royal approval is as good as praise gets. In doing this the Prince and the Duchess of Cornwall played host to 9,396 guests during 2009-10 - which was actually an increase on the year before - but they still managed to halve costs. How? We're told they no longer host so many expensive three- course dinners - staging drinks parties and finger buffets instead. Why not? If you had a Royal invite to Highgrove, would you be churlish about the nibbles? Most people wouldn't care one way or the other - it's the invitation that counts. As a result, the cost of the 115 receptions held at the Royal couple's various residences was reduced to Pounds 252,000, compared with the Pounds 527,000 splashed out the previous year. In making these cutbacks, Prince Charles is very much swimming with the tide that's hit the rest of us. Unlike many of those who spend our money in corridors of power. Cheap Jordan Shoes Of course, this may all be changing in these dire times - but it is worth remembering that in 2009, more than 140,000 senior public sector workers used government-issue cards to spend a fortune - some of it on fine dining, wine and Pounds 100 taxi rides. In that year alone they spent almost Pounds 1 billion (enough to pay the salaries of 50,000 nurses) having been given access to 'government procurement cards' to pay bills rather than having to submit receipts and claim money back. Multiply those figures above by including dosh being spent by executives in local government and you will come up with on overall spend the size of a bankrupt country's national debt.
