Blog Entry: CENTERVILLE -- It took a minute for Centerville freshman swimmer Marisa Pulaski to make a name for herself --1:05.38 to be exact. The 14-year-old clocked a personal best time of 1:05.38 in the 100-yard breaststroke this season. It is the fastest time in the Southwest District and the third fastest time in the state. "I was really surprised when I saw my time," Pulaski said. And it isn't even Pulaski's best event. "I actually prefer the 200 breaststroke because it takes me awhile to get into a certain tempo and the 200 gives me more time to do that," the Elks freshman said. 2010 world cup While the 200 breaststroke is not competed at most high school swim meets, Pulaski is in luck this weekend. The Elks will vie for top honors at the 27th Annual Southwest Ohio High School Swimming and Diving Classic. The megameet, which brings together approximately 3,000 swimmers and divers from more than 100 schools, includes several NCAA and USA Swimming events such as the 200 breaststroke and the mile. "This will be a good opportunity for Marisa to make some noise as a freshman," Centerville watches-q swim coach Eric Limkemann said. "She's done very well recently and put up some good times, but to be dropping time the way she has, not rested or tapered, is a very nice surprise." While some individuals may pull off some surprises this weekend, there have been few surprises when it comes to the team standings at the Classic. Cincinnati St. Xavier is seeking its 27th consecutive boys team title. And after a string of championships for Ursuline, Mason took top girls honors last year. Locally, Centerville is perennially among the top team placers. The Elks girls have finished second the past five years and the boys were runner-up, most recently, in 2008 and '05. While this will mark Pulaski's first Tiffany Necklace Classic appearance, the freshman is focused on her goals, "swim my fastest, make it back for the finals and get the most points possible for my team."
